The trip came around quickly. Life had been so busy that I hadn’t spent weeks counting down to it; I packed my suitcase a couple of hours before departure.
I flew via Turkey and then Greece, spending less than a full day in Athens. The mainland feels very different from the islands, so street photography was inevitable.
I had my Leica R 6.2 with me throughout the trip, along with plenty of film, from ISO 100 to 800. This time, I shot everything at box speed. I photographed the Michelin restaurant dinners on my iPhone; everything else was on film. I used a light-meter app on my phone to choose the shutter speed and aperture. There was more to it than just pressing a button — that’s what makes it interesting. And then comes the anticipation while you wait for the results.
The only real obstacle was not having a working payment card. Cash isn’t always an option these days.
