After a long restoration, Leo Tolstoy’s house museum on Lva Tolstogo Street reopened earlier that year. I love places where history still feels alive, so I took my film camera — I rarely go anywhere without it these days — and dropped in.
The Tolstoy family spent nineteen winters in this estate, from 1882 to 1901, leaving for Yasnaya Polyana for the summer.
The last sunny day of autumn. A hint of the past in the air, and a strange feeling of being connected to another time. The grounds and the house, full of warmth and quiet, draw you right in. If you enjoy places where you can still feel another era, I really recommend a visit — and reading more about the great writer’s final years.
Open every day except Monday. Closed for maintenance on the last Friday of the month.
